Powers of Attorney

If a person is incapacitated and unable to make decisions for themselves, Powers of Attorney for finances and for health care appoint another person to make decisions for you.  Without these documents, your family may not know your wishes regarding end of life decisions and there may be no one immediately available to make decisions regarding your financial matters.

A General Durable Power of Attorney appoints a person to take care of financial issues, such as paying bills or selling property if you are not able to do so.  The Healthcare Power of Attorney appoints a person to make medical decisions on your behalf including nursing home placement and the possible withdrawal of feeding tubes. The Healthcare Power of Attorney can also specify your desires regarding life support and other critical end of life decisions so that your family and your doctors know your wishes.  We will assist you with making the choices and decisions regarding these issues and draft documents that help carryout your desires.
